As much rafting as I’ve done over the past 5 years, it’s been a good 3+ since I’ve done an overnight trip. Our last trip was when we lived in Oregon and ran the Deschutes. Needless to say, we were due.
We’d originally planned on heading south and hitting the Dolores River towards the souther part of the state, but the rumor was that they were stopping the release of water and levels were dropping pretty quickly. It would suck to drive all the way down there, only to have a not so great trip due to water flow. Instead, we decided that we’d hit the old Browns Canyon and say hi to some friends along the way.
Pups were along for the ride, as usual, and after taking a day to access what rafting was all about, they settled into a rhythm by day two. We had great weather overall, but it was SUPER windy, which wasn’t very helpful. I was happy to have along my new NRS dry suit, which kept me toasty when jumping out of the boat to dislodge us from rocks – it only happened a handful of times, but still.
This trip definitely put me in the mood for summer. Luckily, snow is in the forecast for Denver this week, so we’ll see what mother nature has in store for the rest of the month.
